Course Overview: This 12 week online course is designed for participants who wish to increase their knowledge and develop their professional skills in the fundamentals of human resources management. This short course includes topics such as the concepts of HRM, recruitment and selection process, negotiation and system process, performance management, performance appraisal, reward management, human resources development, knowledge management and the legal perspectives to human resources
This certificate course consist of 20 modules, each of which comprises various learning objects including:-
- Audio visual presentations
- PDF presentations to accompany the audio visual presentations
- Frequently Asked Questions with references
- Self-Assessment Test Questions
- Additional course materials such as reading lists, articles or case studies
In addition to the self-learn elements of the course there will be an interactive video conference tutorial/workshop sessions every week. There will be notification of the exact date and time through the system allowing participants to book their participation to the particular tutorial/workshop they are interested in.
In general each module involves one hour of audio visual presentation and another three hours of study time to follow and complete the related course materials including the FAQs, additional readings, forum contributions and self-assessment tests.
Certification: The course is currently under development and certification by the National Commission of Higher and Further Education (NCFHE) in Malta will be available in Q4 of 2017. Once certified this course is to be equivalent to the Malta Qualifications Framework (MQF) under the European Qualifications Framework (EQF). The equivalence of the course to be of 5 ECTS credits at Level 5 (Undergraduate level) which translates in 125 hours of study; including contact hours and self-study. The accreditation of the course provides the quality assurance and the recognition of the course within the EU.
Learning Outcomes: This Award in Principles of Human Resources Management aims to help participants with the ‘how to’ aspect of human resources management, enables the participants to develop as the ‘HR professional’. The focus moves from the theoretical aspects of HR management towards the many skills needed to manage the function itself – including elements ranging from the HRM strategies, along with specialist areas like the process of performance management.
Course Target: This online interactive course is designed primarily as a refresher course for experienced practitioners who wish to build on their practical knowledge and experience. This is being run specifically for undergraduate and graduate students who do not have human resources management as core subjects in their courses. These courses thus provide a comprehensive, specialised and factual theoretical knowledge which is based on industry best practices.
Entry Requirements: An applicant must satisfy the general entrance requirements and the programme specific requirements for each programme which is delivered in English, the language of study and assessment;
- A recognised test of proficiency in English which is the language of study and assessment – IELTS Level 5 or equivalent for Level 5 courses
- Academic standard – minimum undergraduate level of education – level 4 & 5 certificates OR
- Work experience of the level set by the programme – 2 years in junior/middle management position.
Students are notified of the status of their registration upon application, submission of documentation and settlement of fees. In the event that application is rejected, students have the right to ask for their personal details to be removed from the system. Alternatively, student details and documentation are kept for 2 years.

Students following the Level 5 Award in Principles of Human Resources Management in Malta will be eligible for the Get Qualified Scheme by the Malta Enterprise which will enable them to benefit from a tax credit of 70% of the costs incurred.
