Advenio eAcademy on the Future of eLearning at TradeMalta business conference

A Business Seminar titled “Internationalisation of the Education Sector” was organised by TradeMalta on Thursday 13th June 2019 at the Malta Life Sciences Park, San Gwann. The event was well attended and provided an excellent opportunity for industry professionals to discuss trends and developments in the local industry. The Seminar was ably moderated by Mr. Joe Schembri, Chief Officer at TradeMalta.

The first presentation was titled “Strategic Opportunities: Technical and Language Education (Brazil, China, India) and Tertiary and Executive Education (Oman, Qingdao – China) by Mr. Bernard Mallia, CEO, Equinox Group. Mr. Mallia provided an outline of the results of the research carried by his firm on behalf of TradeMalta identifying key market trends and opportunities in these markets for the various local service provider sectors.

The next presentation was by Mr. James Perry, Chief Executive Officer, FELTOM titled “Latest developments and new opportunities for the English language sector. Mr. Perry presented local and international statistics which showed Malta’s continued growth and development in the English language course market. Subsequently, He spoke of various FELTOM international marketing activities to assist members in penetrating new markets such as Brazil.

Following this presentation, Mr. Stephen Vella, General Manager, MCAST Gateway to Industry, delivered his presentation titled “Different approaches to internationalisation within the education sector”. Mr. Vella provided an overview into the efforts of MCAST over the past few years to internationalise their operations. He provided valuable insights into the challenges to be overcome in marketing local programmes internationally and the related challenges of managing diverse cultures at an operational level. His presentation showed the success of MCAST in penetrating international markets as diverse as China, Azerbaijan, India, Bangladesh and Nepal and in providing such a diverse student population with the required technical education programmes.

Advenio eAcademy on “The future of elearning”

The final presentation was titled “The future of elearning” delivered by Mr. Stephen P. D’Alessandro, Executive Director, Advenio eAcademy. Mr. D’Alessandro spoke about the rapid development of elearning in recent years. He highlighted the differences between MOOCs and more interactive online and blended learning programmes. In illustrating the manner in which software-as-a-service solutions have become ever more popular, he used the award-winning EB-Learn elearning platform as an example.
That is to say, this state-of-the-art platform allows for both self-learn and collaborative learning programmes giving it a high level of versatility to meet the needs of different types of service providers. He closed off his presentation by introducing the online course “Guidelines to Export Marketing” developed by Advenio eAcademy on behalf of TradeMalta.

Business opportunities for the international education sector

A lively Panel Discussion then followed which focused on the business opportunities for the international education sector. On the panel were Mr. James Perry (FELTOM), Mr. Stephen Vella (MCAST) and Mr. Stephen P. D’Alessandro (Advenio eAcademy) and was moderated by Mr. Schembri. Mr. Anton Buttigieg, the CEO of TradeMalta wrapped up the event by highlighting the need for the industry to be more organised and to collaborate for better international development of the various market niches. He thanked the speakers and the participants for their active involvement and confirmed the intentions of TradeMalta to continue to organised such industry-specific business seminars. The event closed off with a networking lunch providing excellent opportunities for the continued discussion of many of the topics raised during the presentations and the panel discussion.
