This module provides students with an overview to the importance of big data as the combined collection of traditional and digital data from inside and outside the organisation. It shows how big data has allowed businesses to have access to significantly larger amounts of data, all combined and packaged for analysis.

 This data offers useful and interesting insights businesses, as owners can extract information from big data to study trends that will help them increase their customer base and streamline operations for success. This module outlines these concepts and illustrates how eCommerce businesses can analyse, understand and use online data. It guides students to understand better the concept of analytics, how to increase conversion rates , benchmark performance, digital marketing analytics, big data and business intelligence.

This module will cover the following 6 topics:

3. Benchmarking your performance

4. Digital marketing analytics

5. Big Data

6. Business Intelligence

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the following skills:

  1. Identify how the technology driven process of business intelligence is used to analyze data and presenting actionable information to help executives, managers and other corporate end users make informed business decisions.
  2. Understand the different concepts of analytics and implement them in business for getting better insights on business future.
  3. Understand how bigdata works and to provide better solutions for the big data management faced in the organizations.
  4. Use the key performance indicators to check whether a business is going in relation to the marketing and advertising goals.
  5. Evaluate the analytic tools used in business and implement embedded analytic capabilities in business.
  6. Interact with various online data analytic tools to analyze the eCommerce business growth.

 

Each module will be assessed based on the following components:

  1. Quality of Contributions in Forums: 30%
    • Evaluation of participation and the quality of insights shared in online discussion forums.
  2. Quality of Contributions in Tutorials: 20%
    • Assessment of engagement and contributions during tutorial sessions.
  3. Assignment/Case Study: 50%
    • Completion and quality of assignments that demonstrate understanding and application of the course material.

Passing Criteria:

  • Students must achieve an aggregate of 50% or higher across the three components to pass each module.

 

Scholarship Schemes for Maltese residents:

  • MySkills Scheme: Malta residents are eligible for up to 80% reimbursement, capped at €5,000, subject to eligibility criteria. International students would be able to apply for the MySkills Scheme once they obtain their Student Temporary Residence Card (TRC). (For individual modules only)
  • Get Qualified Scheme ( Scheme available for Maltese residents ) – 70% refund of course fee as a tax rebate

At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the responsibility and autonomy to:

  • Analyse the process of drawing insights from raw information using data analytics and embedded analytics concepts.
  • Analyse the techniques for increasing the web conversion rates and the power of benchmarking in evaluating business.
  • Examine the idea of digital marketing strategies, digital marketing analytics to mine available data, identify the new trends, and reaching viable conclusions in business.
  • Understand the bigdata technology, its frameworks used in modern world and the ultimate need for big data analytics.

Module will consist of the following learning hours:

Contact hours: 10 hours (pre-recorded lectures – 6 hrs, online tutorials – 3 hrs and online forums – 1 hrs)

Self-study: 11 hours (research on notes – 6 hrs and assessment – 5 hrs)

Assessment: 4 hours (finalisation of assessment) 

Learning Hours per module: 25 hours

Course Delivery: Part-Time

Language of Instruction: English

  • Pre-recorded lecture presentations and the respective slides will be made available to students on the e-learning platform
  • Discussions will be carried out via Video Conferencing and will be recorded for other students in the course to view.
  • Contact hours will also include contributions in Forum discussions where the tutor will assess the students’ posts and provide his/her own feedback.
  • Participating students will be presented with:
    Video presentation – 6 hours of audio-visual recording/module. This will include a presenter interviewing an expert in the field of the respective module that is being covered.
    Each hour will be split into 4 – 15minutes segments to allow for better access and download.
    Reading Material – additional reading materials for students to read and can better understand the topic
    FAQs – to assist students with basic questions that are normally asked on the topics
    Glossary – to assist students in having the correct information on key subject terms
