The Award in Principle of Entrepreneurship module seeks to provide students with a sound understanding of the core skills necessary for an entrepreneur. It provides them with an understanding of what it takes to be an entrepreneur and the mind-set required for entrepreneurial success. It seeks to provide students with the knowledge and skills relevant for the management of new ventures across the entrepreneurial life cycle. This module introduces theory, practice and research into starting and growing new ventures. Knowledge and skill development focuses on start-up planning as well as learning-by-doing through adaptive execution. This course describes entrepreneurship as a process of economic or social value creation, rather than the single event of opening a business. Reflecting recent research, the course focuses on opportunity recognition, assembly of the financial and human resources needed to develop the idea, and launching the new venture.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the following skills:

  1. Apply modelling methodologies for the design of products and business strategies.
  2. Demonstrate responsible leadership through ethical behaviour in a complex and ever-changing local and international business environment.
  3. Integrate knowledge of different fields to create an appropriate business model for the business idea conceived.
  4. Apply communications skills gained to pitch business ideas to potential investors.
  5. Identify potential funding schemas for his/her new business storefront to an existing traditional business.
  6. Review and understanding of the different types of e-marketplaces and the opportunities presented to key stakeholders.
  7. Review and discussion of trends that relate to e-commerce both in terms of technical development as well as socio-cultural requirements.
  8. Review and understanding of the implications to the EU GDPR provisions in terms of data protection, regulatory and privacy issues associated with operating an eCommerce system.

 

Each module will be assessed based on the following components:

  1. Quality of Contributions in Forums: 30%
    • Evaluation of participation and the quality of insights shared in online discussion forums.
  2. Quality of Contributions in Tutorials: 20%
    • Assessment of engagement and contributions during tutorial sessions.
  3. Research-Based Assignments: 50%
    • Completion and quality of research-based assignments that demonstrate understanding and application of the course material.

Passing Criteria:

  • Students must achieve an aggregate of 50% or higher across the three components to pass each module.

 

Scholarship Schemes for Maltese residents:

  • MySkills Scheme: Malta residents are eligible for up to 80% reimbursement, capped at €5,000, subject to eligibility criteria. International students would be able to apply for the MySkills Scheme once they obtain their Student Temporary Residence Card (TRC). (For individual modules only)
  • Get Qualified Scheme ( Scheme available for Maltese residents ) – 70% refund of course fee as a tax rebate
