Research Project

This research based project compels students to investigate and plan for a new business launch or the growth of an existing business through new product or new market development. It seeks to challenge the students to carry out the level of research, analysis, and preparation that reflect a critical evaluation of the context of the business, the core competencies and skills of the people driving the business, the economic and market realities of the proposed launch and the risk/reward balance that is critical to any investor.

Competence:

a) Present and describe entrepreneurial and/or managerial issues and research findings using analytical and methodological terminology.

b) Make informed decisions in an independent, professional manner and defend them using rationale and researched data

c) Plan and carry out advanced tasks within specified time limits

d) Acquired knowledge through own desktop-based and/or field-based research as well as providing constructive criticism for other people’s findings and recommendation

e) Effectively apply research methods and implement small-scale research projects

f) Understand better the importance of prioritising and scheduling the multitude of management tasks that an entrepreneur needs to address in managing and growing an SME.
