- Description
This module introduces students to radiation protection principles and radiation safety for nursing professionals. It covers the different types of radiation, their biological effects, and occupational dose limits. Key aspects of radiation safety are discussed, including introduction to radiation protection principles, radiation safety culture, following the ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) philosophy, international guidelines, safe practices for working in radiation environment and with radiopharmaceuticals (signage, shielding, and disposal). The goal is to equip participants with the tools and knowledge to safely work in such environments in their daily practice.
The module comprises of the following 6 sessions.
- Introduction – Objectives and Necessity of Radiation Protection in Hospital environment including International Organizations and Radiation Protection Guidelines
- Radiation Physics
- Description of Health Departments and Medical Procedures that use Ionizing Radiation
- Responsibilities of Nursing Staff
- Introduction to Radiation Protection
- Dosimetry and Radiation Protection of Patients and Nursing Staff
