- Description
The course will provide tools and necessary knowledge and the skill in applying human resources management practices which would help grow and manage a business. It will be based on current best practices, which we ourselves apply in the consultancy roles in applying management practices in different organisations.
The module can be split into the following sessions:
- Session 1 – Basic Principles of HRM
- Session 2 – Managing Organisational Culture and Change
- Session 3 – Recruitment and Selection Process
- Session 4 – HRD and Effective HR Practices
- Session 5 – Legal Perspectives to HRM
- Session 6 – The European Dimensions
- Session 7 – HRM at the Place of Work
- Session 8 – Organisational Structure and Trends

- Session 10 – The Human Dimensions

Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the following skills:
- Be involved in a role of line manager in human resource practices.
- Define human resource planning: definition, purpose, processes, stages involved, and the types of data needed as a basis for human resource planning
- Describe the process of developing comprehensive job profiles for use in interviewing
- Outline the performance management cycle
- Differentiate between performance management and performance appraisal
- Identify illegal (discriminatory) practices in recruitment.
- Identify what disciplinary actions are permitted and how to go about them to mitigate the impact of and avoid costly litigation.
- Plan and design HRD activities, review and evaluate HRD quality.
- Mentor and implement learning tools to employees
Each module will be assessed based on the following components:
- Quality of Contributions in Forums: 20%
- Evaluation of participation and the quality of insights shared in online discussion forums.
- Quality of Contributions in Tutorials: 20%
- Assessment of engagement and contributions during tutorial sessions.
- Research-Based Assignments: 60%
- Completion and quality of research-based assignments that demonstrate understanding and application of the course material.
Passing Criteria:
- Students must achieve an aggregate of 50% or higher across the three components to pass each module.
Scholarship Schemes for Maltese residents:
- MySkills Scheme: Malta residents are eligible for up to 80% reimbursement, capped at €5,000, subject to eligibility criteria. International students would be able to apply for the MySkills Scheme once they obtain their Student Temporary Residence Card (TRC). (For individual modules only)
- Get Qualified Scheme ( Scheme available for Maltese residents ) – 70% refund of course fee as a tax rebate
