The Award in Essentials of HRM is an EQF/MQF Level 5 course accredited with 8 ECTS credits. The course will provide tools and necessary knowledge and the skill in human resources management practices which would help grow a business. It is based on current best practices, which we ourselves apply in the consultancy roles in applying management practices in different organisations. Particularly, the course deals with the core concepts of HRM, recruitment and selection, designing jobs and leadership. The course is delivered fully online over a period of 6 weeks.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the following skills:

  1. Personnel Management and approach of Human Resources Management
  2. The increasing requirement to work in partnership with the business; the involvement of line managers in human resource practices
  3. Defining human resource planning: definition, purpose, processes, stages involved, and the types of data needed as a basis for human resource planning
  4. Describe the process of developing comprehensive job profiles for use in interviewing
  5. Outline the performance management cycle
  6. Differentiate between performance management and performance appraisal
  7. Identify illegal (discriminatory) practices in recruitment.
  8. Identify what disciplinary actions are permitted and how to go about them to mitigate the impact of and avoid costly litigation.
  9. Planning: designing HRD activities, reviewing and evaluating HRD quality.
  10. Action: bringing learning to life.
  11. Process section: integrative case.
  12. Mentoring and the implementation of learning to employees.

 

Each module will be assessed based on the following components:

  1. Quality of Contributions in Forums: 30%
    • Evaluation of participation and the quality of insights shared in online discussion forums.
  2. Quality of Contributions in Tutorials: 20%
    • Assessment of engagement and contributions during tutorial sessions.
  3. Research-Based Assignments: 50%
    • Completion and quality of research-based assignments that demonstrate understanding and application of the course material.

Passing Criteria:

  • Students must achieve an aggregate of 50% or higher across the three components to pass each module.

 

Scholarship Schemes for Maltese residents:

  • MySkills Scheme: Malta residents are eligible for up to 80% reimbursement, capped at €5,000, subject to eligibility criteria. International students would be able to apply for the MySkills Scheme once they obtain their Student Temporary Residence Card (TRC). (For individual modules only)
  • Get Qualified Scheme ( Scheme available for Maltese residents ) – 70% refund of course fee as a tax rebate
